Keeping you safe and sound - Winter Safety Talk
Find yourself wishing that something useful would happen in the Boyd Orr Building? Something that, whilst not helping your course, may give you hints that will save your life?
We're very lucky to be getting a talk from Roger Wild, Mountain Safety Advisor for the MCofS. This will happen on Monday 27th October at 7.00pm.
Before heading out into Scotland this winter you all need to understand the principles of winter mountaineering and its differences between that time you headed up around Ben Nevis in June, wearing t-shirt, flip-flops and hopefully something else in between.
Roger is an experienced mountaineer, not a dry lecturer and so his talk isn't what you'd expect one on winter safety to be like, it's informative but you will be able to stay awake through it. If like last year it'll be interspersed with anecdotes of what to do (and what really not to do).
This isn't just for freshers, everyone is welcome; in fact everyone is recommended to attend. The very worst it can be for those who have done it all before is a quick and helpful refresher.
If you're setting your sights on the hard ice, or setting your sights on seeing what a Scottish winter has to offer, then get yourself to this talk (in Boyd Orr Level 4). Oh, and to any of the safety seminars and winter skills courses we'll have going on later on this year.
Any questions then don't hesitate to email me.
See you all on the 27th.
Callum.
