Kincraig
30/11/2007 - 18:00 - 02/12/2007 - 22:00A three or so hour drive from Glasgow up the A9 on the Eastern side of Scotland, Kincraig offers a brilliant weekend to hopefully get to grips with the early snow and ice of the Cairngorms - depending on weather conditions of course!
Location:
-
Accommodation:
The hall is very well looked with after with brilliant facilities and fully-fitted professional kitchen! The hall is always warm with plenty of heaters so need to share sleeping bags.
Routes:
There is plenty of walking around Cairngorm itself and the Cairngorm Plateau. There are a few ridge walks involving some good scrambling (Fiacaill Ridge). The view over the plateau to Loch Avon is quite something on a good day. Ben Macdui is also often a popular walking choice.
In good conditions there is plenty of rock and ice to be climbed around Corrie an t'Sneachda and Coire an Lochain. Routes range from winter 1 upwards and vary in quality and style so take your pick!
Pubs:
Aviemore being a 'ski-town' has lots of good bars, pubs and cafes to serve whatever budget you have.
Sunday Activities:
Aviemore yields a fine fried breakfast for the (hungover) hungry amongst us.
There are lots of short lazy walks around Cairngorm and no end of touristy things to visit (dry ski slope, wildlife park etc etc).

Shelterstone
I must recommend the Shelterstone for a perfect bivi site! As far as sleeping holes go it's 5* and there's some great climbing on your doorstep.
