Ballater
The town with many Royal connections. Not far from Balmoral the town is a bit more upmarket than most small villages we visit with fashion shops and whatnot. The local mechanic drives a Jaguar and everyone is very friendly.
Location:
Far out near the Cairngorms, it's a long drive but certainly a fine place to go. Do not trust your satnav to get you there (I ended up in Dundee - thankfully it had a Pizza Hut though!)
Accommodation:
The village hall has excellent facilities within the kitchen with most plates, cutlery etc needed (still bring pots/pans).
The village has its own good Co-Op selling all the usual bits.
Routes:
Head over to Eagle rocks - it's a long walk-in (3 hours) but if the conditions are good it yields some awesome routes. 'Lethargy' is an ice incredible route if it's in.
Pubs:
There are two pubs - a posh swanky bar and a lively bar (with a disco out the back or something there too?!)
Sunday Activities:
Try visiting the royal train museum just opposite the hall for some fun. There are also plenty of gentle walks about for those who overdid the Saturday climbing (or drinking).
