Chris Sharma, one of the world's best climbers, is coming to give a talk in Glasgow.

The event is being held on Tuesday 3rd of March at 7:30pm in the Boyd Orr Lecture Theatre at the University of Glasgow (see map below).

We're lucky in the GUMC to have one of the best activities in the university; we don't spend 90 minutes running up and down a pitch getting wet and miserable, we can last all day enjoying the 'finest' of Scottish weather in some of it's truly most fantastic scenery. Unfortunately we also take part in something that (whilst it doesn't always seem it) can be one of the most dangerous pastimes and is potentially fatal.

In 2006 the Arctic Foxes braved freezing temperatures to become the first British all-female team to cross the Greenland ice sheet. They covered 1100km from Kangerlussuaq in the west to Ammasillik in the east... and back again, walking up to 16 hours a day and dragging 50kg pulks loaded with their entire expedition kit.

The Tour features latest films from award-winning film makers at Sender Films and Big UP productions, plus new thrilling short films , gear giveaways, appearances by top climbers, and fundraising for local and national non-profit organisations.

In association with Heason Events, Glasgow University Mountaineering Club is hosting a Dave Graham lecture as he roams the UK with his first ever lecture tour. 

The event is being held on SUNDAY 12th OCTOBER ‘08 at 8pm in the Sir Charles Wilson Building, Gilmorehill, Glasgow.

Well, the fact is that if you plan on staying active the chances are that you are likely to get an injury at some point along the way. I have had no end of problems with annoying and painful injuries so I thought it might be a good idea to write a short article about my experiences and the people/services I have used around Glasgow to get everything sorted out.

SpotChecks in Avalanche Awareness” is a free computer based quiz aimed at everyone who goes into the hills in winter.
